What is melatonin?
Melatonin is a natural sleep hormone produced by the pineal gland, primarily during the night.
When it gets dark, the body increases its secretion to prepare you for sleep.
With age, as well as in people exposed to strong artificial light in the evening (e.g., screens), melatonin levels can be low. This makes falling asleep difficult, interrupts sleep, and shortens total sleep time.
A daily dose of 1 mg before bedtime can help:
